I'm not giving any secrets away here that most people won't realise deep down in their gut. Success comes at a price, not financially but in commitment and resolve. Most people looking for the secret to success are looking for a short cut, easy option or magical system and either unable or unwilling to pay the price in blood, sweat and tears.

Success in business has nothing to do with academic achievement; some of the most successful entrepreneurs left school at fifteen with no qualifications. Most of them would have been considered stupid, dunces, troublesome, undisciplined and most likely told by their teachers that they were a waste of space and time.

This obviously doesn't apply to everyone who leaves school without qualifications because the above will be true about most of them. However, what their teachers failed to recognise in some of them was a type of intelligence and personality that cannot be taught. These were the kids who already knew they were destined to achieve on their own. Hated discipline, hated being told what to do, couldn't sit still and listen to someone droning on about something irrelevant and couldn't wait for the end of the day so that they could get out and do something they enjoyed.

They most likely excelled at sport, enjoyed any subject that was creative or had a meaningful purpose and almost certainly had evening and weekend jobs and possibly some kind of extra curricular income earner at playtime.

Whilst the other kids were dreaming of being a fireman, policeman, doctor or some other safe career path, these young people were already thinking about setting up some kind of business with a view to becoming a millionaire. They didn't know how, they hadn't been taught the right subjects to achieve this and would have fallen flat on their faces during the early years of trying to set up businesses.

Nothing wrong in that; the road to success is paved with obstacles, failure and disaster and many will have fallen by the wayside and given in. Real success is the ability to be able to get back up, learn from your mistakes and keep going till you win.

Successful businessmen don't know all the answers and are never scared to ask for business advice. Success can be achieved by always making the right decisions; but to do that you need experience and in order to gain experience you will end up making wrong decisions. A mistake is only costly when you don't learn from it. They can prove less costly by learning from others and not making them.

Many successful businessmen will have faced bankruptcy, losing their home and other financial problems before achieving success. The art is never giving in as failure is only allowing yourself to be beaten.

Look at any successful entrepreneur and they will be surrounded by skilled and knowledgeable business partners. What they gain in drive and determination, they often lack in business skills and acumen. This does not deter them as they are normally born leaders that have no problem recruiting high quality partners.

What sets successful entrepreneurs apart from other people aren't skills, knowledge or having clever ideas, although the latter helps; it is certain qualities and characteristics in their makeup that cannot be taught, only discovered from within, if they are there in the first place.
