RISING UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE UK

Rising unemployment in the UK, no reason why anyone should have to sign on as unemployed, the world does not owe you a living

News reports that unemployment figures have risen to more than 2.4 million people on the jobless list brought pundits and financial experts out from their rat holes to cast more doom and gloom on the UK's economic misfortunes. The Bank of England officials stated that the recession had sunk deeper than they first thought, financial experts and journalists all rubbed their chins, shook their heads and depressed us all further; and politicians from all parties were quick to point fingers at each other in the name and blame game.

With factories laying off staff, cutting production or closing down. The cess pools we call banks all laying off staff whilst declaring huge bonuses for the scum who are mostly to blame for causing this recession; you have to wonder where all this is going to end.

But hang on a minute.

Hasn't the UK manufacturing sector been in irreversible decline since the fifties and before? Haven't banks always been a nest of crooks and loan sharks? Haven't we always had a relatively high level of unemployed, unemployable and ne'er do wells? This is nothing new, anyone over the age of forty has seen all this before. Many of us who are past our sell by date have lived though worse than this and come out stronger at the other end. The only thing that's different is the fact that some people's attitudes have changed whilst others are still thinking like their grandfathers did on the Jarrow march.

We have always talked about the North-South divide which has always been a matter of attitudes rather than geography but has the boundary moved south of the Watford Gap and moved down as far as London and possibly beyond.

Now I know that a lot of Northerners are going to get pretty pissed off with what I am about to say next; but frankly I don't give a damn. I know lots of successful, entrepreneurial northerners who have moved south and they are of the same opinion as me. If you are physically fit, there is actually no reason why anyone should have to sign on as unemployed.

NO REASON WHY ANYONE SHOULD HAVE TO SIGN ON AS UNEMPLOYED.

Now that has put the cat amongst the pigeons. I take it that racing pigeons is still a major past time in the working class north of England?

Northerners and this attitude has spread south to encompass many youngsters believe they have a right to work. That the country should somehow provide employment for everyone who wants it. They believe that the government should somehow create jobs out of thin air. It is that attitude that has created most of the economic problems we now face. Government bodies have sprung up all over the place including those festering boils we call the FSA, who incidentally awarded themselves 30 million in bonuses last year. The UK is cracking under the weight of employing too many people who produce nothing and do nothing except prevent people from making money and working.

You cannot legislate against unemployment and we should certainly not have as many people working for the government and acting as a huge tax burden on the rest of us. They are what the French, who incidentally have the same problem, call Les Nouveaux Bourgeois. People who are in government jobs who know they have a secure occupation for life with a guaranteed pension that will suck the rest of us all dry at the end of their working life. People who in fact will have contributed sweet FA to the economy and never actually had to earn a living.

Give us teachers, doctors, nurses, police, fireman and if you really must the odd scabby tax collector or two but the rest of these government leeches can all be dispensed with. The economy is cracking under the strain of too many officials in government created quangos and hangers on who go around selling them over priced computer programmes and other ridiculous systems we don't need. There are simply too many low calibre people working in highly paid government circles.

Government workers on the most part unless they are essential services are just another name for the unemployed that we have to pay for. And now there are a supposed 2.4 million further unemployed but Christ knows how many signing on as unfit to work because it pays more.

THE WORLD DOES NOT OWE YOU A LIVING

The world does not owe any of us a living and none of us has the right to work. It is not the responsibility of governments to create employment. It is however, the responsibility of governments to create a financial environment where entrepreneurs and business people can create work opportunities for people who don't have the get up and go to create a business opportunity for themselves.

We saw it in the seventies when Arthur Scargill led his miners to the worst mining disaster ever. His attitude and senseless belief that miners had the right to work, go down underground, risk their lives in soot and filth and dig out coal for a living has surfaced yet again. Who in their right mind would want to do that for a living? And why was it the responsibility of the mine owners to keep a mine that was no longer profitable open?

The idea that whole communities would be decimated by the closure of the mines seemed feasible at the time but was replaced by a new optimism as old mining communities were transformed into new technological and business areas by entrepreneurs that provided better and cleaner work for the unemployed.
