MAKING MONEY WITH CLICKBANK AFFILIATE MARKETING
Making money with ClickBank affiliate marketing, how to make money using the Clickbank affiliate network marketing system
In the chapter on affiliate marketing, there was one major affiliate network that I didn't mention. I deliberately
left it out because it is quite a different beast from the other big affiliate networks. In fact, I don't know of any
other affiliate network quite like this one. The network I'm talking about is called
ClickBank.
As far as I'm concerned, there are two things which single ClickBank out and make it different from other affiliate networks:
- They have thousands of merchants - probably more than any other affiliate network - and yet you are unlikely to have heard of a single one of them
- None of these merchants are selling tangible products; ClickBank exists purely to help people sell digital products (e-books, software packages, etc) that are available for immediate download by the buyer
The e-books that are available to buy via ClickBank cover a vast range of topics such as making money on the internet, how to lose weight, learning to play the guitar, dog obedience training……. The list is almost endless.
As an affiliate, that's a good thing because it means you have plenty of opportunities to find products to promote in niche sectors (see the chapter on BANS for more info on why niches are important for successful affiliate marketing).

Another good things for affiliates is that the commissions offered on e-books are massive compared to those offered on tangible goods. It is common to find publishers/merchants on ClickBank who are offering anything from 50% to 75% commission to affiliates who promote their e-books. On a traditional affiliate programme you'll be lucky to earn 10% on each sale.
Why are the commissions so high? Because the person who wrote the e-book has no ongoing costs associated with each sale. Once someone has written an e-book, that's it. Whether they go on to sell one copy of it or several thousand copies of it, their overheads are the same (i.e. practically nothing). Whereas a merchant who is selling, for example, MP3 players has costs associated with every single transaction (mainly the cost to buy in or manufacture each MP3 player).
A typical selling price for an e-book on ClickBank is $97, so it is quite common to earn around $70 per sale (i.e. about £35).
As with any affiliate programme, the best way to promote e-books is to create your own landing page(s) on your own website where you can provide information and details on the product you are promoting (see the earlier chapter on affiliate marketing).
Your landing page can be an article related to the subject matter of the e-book your are promoting, with affiliate links for people to click through to the site where they can buy that e-book.
Or, for better results, you could write an independent review of the book and hope that people will buy it as a result of reading your review.
An even better method is to find three e-books all on a similar theme and provide a comparison review of all three of them. You can award a score to each e-book and make the whole thing look like a proper product review - the kind of thing you might find in a computing or mobile phone magazine for example.

Fantastic business idea
Doing this will give your opinions far more credence because you will be seen to have taken the trouble to fully research the market before making your recommendations. This is especially true if you say on your site that you actually reviewed a much larger number of similar e-books and have helpfully whittled it down to the top three for the benefit of the people reading your review.
If you want to see an example of what I am talking about, have a look at this review page about
how to run your car on water.
Having built a review page like this you can then use Google AdWords to drive traffic to your site. Because you have provided people with three products that all have your seal of approval, there is a good chance that they will click on at least one of the product links (even if it is not your top pick item) and hopefully go on to make a purchase.
