It was obvious that my website, like millions of other websites had not been built for the search engines. It looked fine but it had been built to my specifications and the website designer had simply followed my instructions, offered no advice and obviously had no real understanding of how the internet nor the search engines work. He like most other website designers churned out websites by the score and had given me exactly what I had asked for. I had in my own ignorance ordered and paid for a "pig in a poke" - a trap that most would-be internet entrepreneurs fall into.

David explained how I could use affiliate marketing to increase my turnover and took over my pay per click advertising which at the time was costing me a small fortune with little to show for my investment. Under David's expert management, my internet business fortunes were turned around in a very short space of time.

However, there were glaring mistakes in the look and design of my website that were losing me lucrative sales. When pointed out, the errors were obvious and most were simple commonsense but to the untrained eye they were easily missed. For the first time I was talking to someone who really understood how to use the internet, so I decided to employ David to oversee the complete redevelopment of my site.

David explained that we would need to employ a search engine optimiser to provide what he called the blueprint for the designers; something my original website designer had failed to do. The search engine optimiser he worked with, he explained, was the architect that would get my website top ten Google rankings for any search terms I specified.

I have to admit that at this point I started to have doubts. My website was competing against hundreds of thousands and often millions of websites for the type of search terms I needed my website to appear highly ranked. After all, there are only a maximum of ten websites that can appear in the top ten of any search engine and I was realistic enough, or so I thought, to believe that my website stood little chance of getting top ten rankings on Google. After all, this is where the big money is being made, where tens of millions of people are looking at websites 24 hours a day and the idea of owning a website that was seen by just about everyone searching for my type of service was beyond feasible belief.

However, David persuaded me to call his colleague who was based in their Bordeaux offices and the following day I spoke to Paul Herbert. He turned out to be as knowledgeable in his own specialised field as David; explained what he believed was possible, what I could reasonably expect and promised to come back to me within a week after his researchers and sequence analysts had prepared a report.

Paul made what David had called rocket science and brain surgery all rolled into one seem fairly comprehensible. He didn't blind me with science; instead, he explained how he believed he could get top ten rankings for just about every search term I had supplied and I found myself agreeing, despite my doubts and reservations, to contract him to do the search engine optimisation for the website. I have to say at this point that despite his obvious knowledge and confidence, I was pessimistic about Paul really achieving the results he said he could achieve.

He was blunt and to the point, he made no guarantees; something other search engine optimisers often make but, as he pointed out, Google have ultimate control and all he would do was his utmost and keep working to get me the rankings I so desired.
