HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM WRITING ARTICLES FOR THE INTERNET

The income from writing articles is normally generated through contextual advertising hosted on the respective web pages hosting an article. (Contextual advertising and Google AdSense are covered under another chapter by David). Someone finds your article through the search engines and whilst reading it an advertisement catches their eye and they click through to the external website. Each time this happens you get paid a percentage of the advertising revenue. How much is determined by the subject matter and how much the advertiser is bidding per click.

GOOGLE ADS

There are websites that have been specifically set up to enable writers to upload their articles, without any human intervention, who share the advertising revenue with the article writer. Normally, most websites will be using Google Ads. Some pay 50%, others less, and some don't pay any commission at all because many writers are simply happy to see their article published on the internet.

Because these sites are fully automated, the web pages that host these articles are not optimised for the search engines and many never see the light of day. However, the website owners are working on sheer weight of content and numbers and because their websites do not require much upkeep in the way of human resources or intervention they are quite happy to garner just a small revenue from each and every web page. This income obviously accumulates into something substantial for the website owners but rarely produces much income for the writer. The web page may only earn the writer $2 in a year but when you have a website with a hundred thousand pages, the earnings can amount to a substantial income over many years.

DRIVE TRAFFIC TO A WEBSITE

My company sees little point in hosting web pages that never get found in the search engines. If you are not looking to make money from Google Adsense, you should be looking to drive traffic to your website. The more popular the subject matter, the higher the advertisers are likely to be bidding and obviously the more you are likely to earn. This is how you will make your money. There are of course exceptions to this rule and where advertisers are selling high worth goods and services, income potential is also likely to be high.
On the other hand, less popular topics where there is less competition (and which are therefore easier to get top ten rankings for) can also generate regular income, although the bidding will be lower
