You can lose weight simply by eating less, eating a healthier diet and taking a little exercise. I am fed up with hearing mothers with fat children saying they lead such busy lives that they don't have the time to prepare and cook a healthy meal for their children.

This is such absolute rubbish they deserve a good smack to knock some sense into them. If they have to go out to work, they shouldn't have had their children in the first place. It is all about choices; they either go out to work or they stay at home to bring their children up to be slim, fit adults. Mothers who allow their children to eat an unhealthy diet are guilty of abuse and neglect.
Make the decision to either go out to work or have children and take the responsibility for bringing them up; you cannot do both. The argument that you need a second income coming into the home doesn't hold water. Your ankles and waistline probably are but that is down to your diet. If you genuinely need to go out to work, you shouldn't be so irresponsible as to have children that you cannot look after. If you want to go out to work because you want a bigger house and better car then you are neglecting your children and passing the responsibility for looking after them onto someone else. A parent, the mother or father, should take full responsibility for their children's health and diet and that means staying at home.
It is no good turning round to your child in fifteen years time and saying "I'm sorry I turned you into a fat, disgusting lump of lard with all sorts of health problems by not bothering to ensure you had a decent diet, but mummy and daddy did drive you to school in a nice big car because we couldn't be bothered to walk you to school".
What an adult chooses to put in their mouth by way of food is down to them. If they want to walk around looking like a disgusting tub of lard is their decision. Adults should be educated and coerced into eating a healthy diet.
However, children should be under the protection of their parents and if the parents are not responsible parents, then it should be down to social services to intervene. Any parent who does not provide a healthy diet for their child and as a result causes that child to be overweight is guilty of neglect. If they continue to feed the child an unhealthy diet, they are also guilty of abuse and social services should step in long before that child is allowed to become obese.
Medical causes aside, no child should be allowed to become fat. I didn't encounter my first fat child until I went to grammar school and then they were a rarity. Nowadays it is a matter of trying to spot the slim fit kids in amongst a sea of lard. Damn political correctness, the authorities should intervene to prevent this kind of neglect and abuse at the earliest opportunity.
