LINKING TO INCREASE VISITORS TO A WEBSITE
Linking to increase visitors to a website * top ten search engine optimisation techniques * high Google rankings * proven SEO strategies * reciprocal linking advice
There isn't an hour in the day that our companies don't get an email from someone asking us to exchange links. When you have a high profile website that
is found at the top of the search engines, the world and his dog will bombard you with link exchange requests. They normally come in the form of a
patronising email, telling you how wonderful your site is and extolling the virtues of
exchanging links
and how linking can increase visitors to our website.
LINKING TO INCREASE VISITORS TO A WEBSITE
We often get the same email several times to numerous sites we own and all saying the same thing. "Exchanging links will increase visitors to your website and help with Google rankings." Quite often, these emails come from link building services that have sold some unsuspecting website owner on the idea that they can help with their link popularity. By the time you are getting twenty requests a day like this, you are going to be extremely hacked off.
The important thing to understand about linking strategies, reciprocal links and building or exchanging links with other websites is that virtually everything you have ever read on other internet sites is either wrong or total rubbish. What you are about to read here about linking strategies goes against just about everything that other search engine optimisers claim.
Build web pages and link them into your website here and drive traffic to your website.

TOP TEN SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION TECHNIQUES
Because our websites get so much traffic, because we employ top ten search engine optimisation techniques, we charge anyone wanting to exchange links an annual fee. A link from an important hub site is worth more than a link from a thousand low level traffic websites.
A typical email will arrive telling us how fantastic our website is and how exchanging links with the sender's website will help both our rankings. These emails normally come from low traffic, poor quality websites and are tantamount to someone walking into their bank and saying "I have ten pounds and I think we should go into business together." First of all, a link from a low traffic website won't help our rankings: we are already top of Google for virtually every search term we have optimised the site for; and their low level traffic site is never going to generate any additional traffic for us. In fact, linking to their site could damage our search engine positions.
HIGH GOOGLE RANKINGS
Exchanging links
is one of the most abused, misunderstood, misleading and time wasting tasks involved in search engine optimisation. Compared to the work and effort involved, exchanging links will not help you gain high Google rankings unless it is implemented along with other important SEO techniques. Exchanging links with other websites is a total waste of time if it isn't done right and it rarely is done correctly. The major search engines, especially Google, caught onto the abuse of exchanging links years ago and do not count links that are obviously just being exchanged to try and fool the search engines into believing the website is important. However, there are still companies out there getting website owners to pay them to build a linking campaign on the basis that exchanging links will help their search engine rankings.

PROVEN SEO STRATEGIES
If you were to believe what other website designers and SEO experts say about search engine optimisation and reciprocal linking, you would be led to understand that exchanging links is a magic cure-all pill that can gain you top ten page ranking on Google. Despite the fact that Google has a page rank system, it pays little attention to links that have been exchanged. We have web pages that are top of Google where Google has 250,000,000 pages indexed and the pages in question have a page rank of zero. So they are certainly not top of Google because of their link popularity. They are there because we use proven SEO strategies. Many of the website designers who expound these theories really do believe that link popularity actually works, practice it themselves, and yet don't get top ten rankings for their own websites. It is like a religion: they believe in linking without a single shred of proof and, when questioned, they reveal they have done no research other that what they have read on other websites and that they have no proof that it works to back these search engine optimisation theories up.
RECIPROCAL LINKING ADVICE
Reciprocal linking is not the only subject where supposed SEO experts get their knickers in a twist and either misunderstand or don't do any thorough research to back up the theories that are published on other websites.
I was recently on a Forum where a website optimiser, calling himself " the best SEO writer in the world" was providing advice that was so obviously wrong and misinformed he could have caused the people he was advising serious financial losses. The reason he called himself the best SEO writer in the world was because he was top of Google for this search term and believed this was a huge achievement. The reality was that no one else had bothered to optimise their website for this search term and no one was ever going to use it as a search term.
DOORWAY PAGES AND BUYING LINKS
Totally unlike me; I just had to intercede and put this SEO expert right about his ridiculous theories. I wish I hadn't started; because it started referring me to links on Google to back up his theories. However, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and it was evident that he had not understood or read everything through to the end.
Google is always ambiguous in its advice and if you don't read everything and then read between the lines, you can come away with completely the wrong understanding of what they are telling you. In this case we were debating the use of buying links, spam links and building doorway pages.
The search engine we were discussing was
Boogami and the so called SEO expert was banging on about the fact that Google would ban the site because it allowed people to buy links, the site was a spam link site and it was also providing doorway pages. In fact they actually called the pages Boogami Doorways.
SPAM LINKS
This is where search engine optimisers get themselves so confused. They read something, misinterpret it, don't complete their research and end up misinforming everyone. Furthermore, other SEO experts then read articles on other websites and take the information as fact. Before long, a theory that is completely wrong is set in stone.
Google does bang on about buying links, spam links and doorway pages and if you just read up on those sections on their website, you would believe that you can never buy links, build off site pages and link them into your website or have loads of links on a web page.
It is true that Google has implemented bias into its algorithms to pick up on spammed links, bought links and doorway pages but it is all about quality and had the idiot read everything he would have seen the following.
Google says on its website:
"Not all paid links violate our guidelines. Buying and selling links is a normal part of the economy of the web when done for advertising purposes, and not for manipulation of search results. Links purchased for advertising should be designated as such."
Providing you are building pages that have good quality content and are for advertising purposes, they are not considered doorway pages. A doorway pages is a page that is packed with keywords and serve no purpose. How do you think all the advertising would survive if Google treated them as doorway sites?
PIXEL ADVERTS
The idiot also banged on about the fact that
Boogami has thousands of pixel advert links on its pages. Google, when it is talking about spam links is referring to text links not graphic links. Text links can be used to manipulate the search engines; pixel adverts are graphics and cannot be read by a search engine robot. The SEO idiot didn't understand the difference nor the fact that the links were adverts and purchased for advertising purposes.
So you have to read everything and then form your own opinions. Most SEO experts, even if they claim to be the best SEO writer in the world talk out of their arse most of the time; the rest of the time, they use their arse for what nature intended....
