ABOUT JAVEA

Javea is one of the most easterly points of the Spanish mainland and this point is known as Cap de la Nau with its lighthouse and two restaurants at the end.

Javea is divided into three areas. The tourist / holiday part known as the Arenal is buzzing with bars and restaurants all the way along the crystal clear waters and golden sandy blue flag beach. Javea has apartments, hotels and many villas. Fortunately building height restrictions has kept the areas of development low rise and therefore retains much of its character.

Further along the coast will take you to Javea port and the marina with its many shops and café bars. The front along here looking out to the sea is beautiful and a nice place to sit and have refreshments and watch the world go by. To the left juts out Cap de San Antonio, which is at the end of the Montgo Mountain. There is a nice walk around the marina to the very end of San Antonio where you will find a restaurant / bar.

Set back inland about 1 mile from Javea port lies the old town and this is a great place to experience Spanish culture. The old streets, the church square and the tapas bars are not to be missed. The shopping here is also good and especially the market where you will find genuine bargains!

For the property hunters, Javea is an exclusive area, has much to offer and many villas, some stretching all the way to the foot of the massive Montgo Mountain.

If you like walking the views from the summit of the Montgo are spectacular and well worth the climb but you need to allow around 4 hours to get up and down if you are fit!

On the hill overlooking Javea are the old Molinos (windmills) and the road that you take to get to them, as well as the start of the Montgo walk, is the road over the Montgo to Denia. As you reach the peak of the road you will see signs for both of these areas. To the right is Cap de San Antonio as well as the Molinos and to the left a little further on is a road and parking area for walkers wishing to climb the Montgo.

Further north of Javea you have Denia, which is a large working town, but well worth the visit to see the shops and the Marques de Campo, which is the main street, covered by a canopy of dense trees and street cafes. Denia also has a ferry port should you wish to pop across to Ibiza or one of the other Islands.
