Previous page about giving birth.

Babies grow up so quickly but the basic pre-school essentials of caring, sharing, books, manners, road sense, swim, ride a bike never go out of fashion. From day one you can see which children have meals at the table sharing family time discussions.

Never be too proud to ask for help, friends made through classes, swimming and at the gym really do make a difference. You are helping each other. Not everyone has a parent, sister, or granny nearby. A good neighbour is a godsend too.

POTTY TRAINING

It is intentional that a comment on potty training has been kept to the 'rear' end of this piece. It is a phase you cannot escape, and only you can master.

We could fill a page with stories of leaking bottoms and wet pants but conscious not to put you off will keep to a minimum. Actually, puppy and kitten training is a good base indicator. Add a couple of toddler tantrums and you have a period in your life when it is best not to visit friends for fear of carpet staining. Hereto, foregoing the trip to the park as last time the slide caught the wee, not the WC. We'll not go into the other descriptions but you can imagine. Anyhow you will experience it for yourself when your precious bundle is active - in more ways than one.

As with all things: smile, a cuddle and unconditional love will pull you through. And everything you have given means moments you cannot buy - first tooth, first words, first steps, first school, 1st degree. And there are many more things you will experience in life, but only by having children.

Enjoy your walk in the park.
