Effective search engine optimisation how to profit from the search engines using blogging and writing articles that are hosted on other websites So you need to start off with a website that has been correctly optimised and you need to keep adding content to the site. Google likes websites that have constantly changing or increasing content. You can do this by having a content management system that enables you to add content at will. But although this will save you money, because the pages are unlikely to be optimised correctly (in fact almost certainly not optimised correctly) you should also get your search engine optimiser to add pages. I would also recommend having a forum if your website is suitable although, again, forums can be a lot of work because you have to monitor the content - but at least other people are adding the content for you. BLOGGING Adding a blog is another way of adding content to a site with little effort or time. Blogging appears to be the flavour of the month at the moment. A blog on your website will allow people to leave comments and therefore build content and there is evidence that running a blog on specialist blog websites with links to your own site can generate traffic. Personally I have yet to grasp the whole idea; a blog is an online diary and I have neither the time nor the interest in reading about what someone ate for breakfast or where they went on holiday. However, some blogs get tens of thousands of visitors so I would not dismiss them as they are a fast way to add content and drive traffic to your website. To be honest, we don't really make the most of it because we have so many other things on the go. There are lots of websites that publish duplicate content for free but where we differ is the fact that we optimise the web pages writers and journalists send us so that they get plenty of traffic. Other article publishing websites are automated and therefore the web pages tend to get very low traffic levels. (If you don't know what AdSense is then don't worry because it is covered in more detail by David in the chapter about making money from Adsense). Some share a percentage of the Adsense revenue with the article contributor. The websites tend to do well because of the huge level of content they carry but contributors get very little income because the pages get very low traffic levels because the pages are not optimised....
