Groznjan is another beautiful hilltop village with a vibrant atmosphere. It is now a haven of art and music. For years it was ignored and neglected until, in 1965, the local council proclaimed Groznjan a “City of Artists”. Painters, sculptors and potters were invited to set up their workshops here, on the condition that they carried out the restoration work on the dilapidated stone buildings. Consequently, Groznjan is now home to more than 30 small galleries and studios.
Every year from June to September the Jeunesse Musicale organisation (International Federation of Musical Youth) runs a summer school here for young musicians, many of whom, take part in outdoor concerts.
There are many lovely and unusual hand-made souvenirs at reasonable cost. A selection of painting, pottery and sculpture will keep art lovers entranced.
The “Jazz is Back” annual summer festival is electric – a great experience!
