If you want to find out what you truly want to do with your life and discover what energises you, then think for a while about what you have been doing over the last few days. When did you not enjoy what you were doing? Which tasks did you do that felt like a drudge? Which things do you normally put last on your to-do list?

Sometimes it is easier to think about what you don't like to do than what you do like to do. So let's start there.

Task: Write a list of things that you do not like to do. Make the list as long as you like.

Task: Write a list of things that you do like to do. Make the list as long as you like.

Task: When does time seem to fly? What do you do, at work or play, that makes time appear to fly? Write a list of those things. Make the list as long as you like.

Task: Think about what energises you? Which things make you feel better after you have completed them, than you felt before you started? Make a list of all those things. Make it as long as you like.

Task: Think about the things you are good at? Include things you do at work at play. Write a list of the things you are good at. Make it as long as you like.

Task: Now look at the list of things you are good at and cross out any that you may do well, but do not energise you, that you leave to the end of the day, or that make time drag.

Now you should have a clearer idea which of these elements you may want to include in your career.
