When Peter got home he turned on his computer and checked his e-mails, hoping that his hosts had already replied. Now he had decided to take a break he wanted to leave as soon as possible. He just wanted to get away from his present life - at least for a while - or maybe longer. In fact, they had both replied.

"Delighted - no problem at all. I'll meet you at Toulouse airport. Let me know your flight times. I've got some excellent Bordeaux on which I'd like your opinion. A bientôt - Jean"

"Great. Bring a few bottles of single malt whisky with you. Details of my preferred brand and the instructions for finding me are attached. If you get lost give me a call and I'll guide you in. Regards Charles"

Tourist information about south west France

Peter surfed the web and found a reasonably priced flight to Toulouse in two days time which he booked with his credit card. He then e-mailed the flight details to Jean who immediately replied saying that he would be at the airport to meet him.

It occurred to Peter that he had no clear idea where he was going so he opened up his electronic atlas and zoomed in on France, then Toulouse, then Castres and finally to Lacastanière. This was the nearest town to Jean's weekend house. Although his atlas had heard of Lacastanière, it gave it no more than a dot on the map near a blue line marked Agout River. There was no street plan or other details. In a way this reassuring. This was how deepest France should be. There was nothing indicating La Caulié where Charles' farmhouse was situated but this didn't surprise him since Charles had told him it was isolated and near nowhere. He would obviously need to get some detailed local maps once he was in the area. Not that there was any real need since Jean was meeting him but he like to know where he was. It gave him a sense of security. Peter loved maps. In fact, he had a large collection of maps of places he had never visited and probably never would.
