SUMMER IN THE BLACK FOREST

The picturesque Lake Titisee

Hotel Grunenberg in the Black Forest is a family run hotel offering excellent facilities to explore the Black Forest. Skiing holidays, summer holidays, spring vacations and Autumn breaks in the Black Forest.

There's more to the Black Forest than cake and clocks!  For adrenaline junkies we have all the sports you could possibly want; sailing, swimming, walking, mountain biking and skiing in some of the most beautiful landscapes possible.

There are picturesque lakeside resorts including Titisee pictured above and Schluchsee which is only a few minutes drive from Menzenschwand. Experience roman baths, steam trains, cable car rides, the metropolitan city of Freiburg, nature parks and of course the wonderful spas right on our doorstep.  If you need help planning your excursions just ask for inspiration.  Our hotel is in the centre of the village, right next door to the Tourist Office.  There is a regular bus service into the town of St Blasien just 5km away.  St Blasien is famous for having the third largest domed church in Europe and is a very grand spa town with shops, restaurants and for our self-catering guests a supermarket.  The park makes a great place for a picnic and  you'll often find the bandstand in use on a summer evening.

Enjoy a day trip to the spectacular Schaffhausen Rhine Falls on the German/Swiss border, take a boat trip across the Rhine, visit the bustling French city of Strasbourg or explore some of the other Alsace towns, take the children to Europapark as featured on the BBC's Departure Lounge or experience the unforgettable and Mediterranean qualities of Lake Constance.  Three countries, one holiday!

The waterfall - a wonderful walk from our hotel, flood lit on summer evening

Laufenberg, park on the German side of the Rhine and walk across the bridge to Switzerland where you can take a boat trip along the Rhine or enjoy a walking tour of the historic town.  One town, two countries!

From here it is a short distance to either the bustling town of Waldshut or to Bad Sackingen, which has a historic covered wooden bridge linking Germany and Switzerland.
